Article Marketing Tips and Tricks for 2010

Article marketing is a great way to get targeted traffic to your website. However, how you craft your article will make a huge difference as to how successful your campaign is. Here are some tips:

Tip One: It really is all about the title

The first thing people see when they look at your article is the title. Their decision to continue reading will be based solely on this. It has to be catchy. There are several things you can do here. First, use the keywords in your title that your prospect is searching for. Second, use catchy words like crazy, sexy, secrets and so on so that your title stands out. Third, understand your target market and try to appeal to what they want directly in the title. If they are trying to solve a particular issue, promise the answer in that title.

Tip Two: The first paragraph counts

The first paragraph often shows up in article previews on article directory sites. Also, it’s of course the first thing the reader turns to when he decides to read. If the first paragraph is boring, then the reader will likely assume the whole article is boring and quit reading. You should make it so that it promises to deliver the solution and information that the person is seeking. This way they will be sure to continue reading.

Tip Three: Scannability

The average internet searcher doesn’t spend a whole lot of time on each page. They open one, scan it, see if what they want is there, then move on if they don’t see it immediately. That is why it is often a good idea to make your article scannable so that key points stand out. You can do this buy bolding key text, or adding some point form.

Tip Four: Power Close

The last paragraph should really close of your article on a powerful note. You want your reader to continue on to the signature box and click on your link, therefore, your closing shouldn’t drag on and bore the reader, it should just be a quick lead in to your signature box. End on a positive and coscise note, to motivate the reader to take action.

Tip Five: Signature is key

I cannot underestimate the importance of a good signature box. It is one of the most potent determinants of your click-thru rate. Make it exciting and stimulating, your goal is to entice the reader to see what you are offering by clicking on your link. Don’t bore them. All they want to see is the benefits they will receive. Speak to your reader directly by understanding your target market and using the key words and benefits that they are seeking. They don’t want to see your brand or anything like that, they just want to see what is in it for them.

Google Pulling Plug On IE6 Support

The date has been set, the axe has been raised and in a few months Google will be saying goodbye to IE6 support. Hallelujah!

For years designers and developers have despised the question “is it
IE6 compatible?”. By far one of the worst pieces of bodge-job software
that’s ever shipped from a company that’s also adorned our screens with
such treasures as Windows 2000. Yah.

Pretty much every web designer in the world, myself included, has
been urging the public to ditch this joke of a browser and please use
something that can actually render a page properly such as FireFox,
Safari or Chrome. Thankfully, Google is now joining the cause by
ditching support for IE6 by axing support for the ancient disaster from
Google Sites and Google Docs. The move is part of their “Modern
browsers for modern applications” campaign, and rightfully so.

Nowadays every other website embraces some form of Web 2.0, AJAX is
everywhere, even the most basic blogs have a touch of jQuery dotted
around. Combine with that with how far CSS has come these last few
years, making advanced designs designers never thought would be able to
leave photoshop a thing of present day.

Since IE6 had such a big user base, largely in part because it
shipped default with Windows for years, whilst designers and developers
had the technology to create fantastic modern web applications, since
such a vast amount of internet users were using IE6 a useful web app
was often pointless as half the web couldn’t use it.

So what can we hope to see from this overdue change? With both the
French and German government urging users to switch, combined with
Googles latest move, we can keep our fingers crossed that this marks
the end of a buggy, security-holed, designer-suicide-invoking era. With
IE6 out of the picture, now approaches a time where we can look forward
to more websites using Web 2.0 techniques without fear of alienating so
many users, less grid based designs out of fear of compatibility issues
and less designers with gray hair from stress.

Personally, I stopped checking my websites worked with IE6 a few
months ago, more often than not the type of user that uses IE6 isn’t
really the type of user I’m trying to attract to my blog. If you’re
using IE6, you should probably throw away the AOL disc, snap the floppy
diskette games in half and join us over in the 21st century with a nice
modern browser like FireFox or Safari.

Unfortunately Internet Explorer still holds a few top spots in
browser usage worldwide, if you know something using it however, do the
world a favor and recommend a new browser.

Affiliate Marketing Tips, Tricks, and Other Flashy Words

Affiliate marketing can turn into a very competitive game really quickly. A common occurrence is as follows: Many people scour affiliate networks looking for the ‘next big thing,’ and thousands of affiliates start promoting the same offer.

What happens? The market gets saturated and highly competitive immediately. Earl Nightingale stated, "Whatever the majority is doing, do the opposite, and you will probably never make another mistake in your life." This especially holds true to affiliate marketing.

Here are some tips and tricks to avoid following the crowd:

1) Alternative products and offers

Don’t go for the ‘next big thing,’ dig a little deeper in those affiliate networks and find the hidden gems. I say hidden gems because that’s exactly what they are – they are untapped gold mines waiting to be discovered.

While others are digging in the exact same spot, you can go off into less explored territories and cash in big time. Here is what to look for:

Low gravity products in Clickbank that have a minimal marketing force behind them but are still of high-quality. To do this, simply look at the product’s gravity: If it’s extremely low compared to other products in the niche, this is a good indicator. You can create a hoplink for the product and then purchase it through your link (to save money) and review the product. If its killer and the market is hot, this could be your gem.

2) Find alternative market strategies

Often affiliate marketers all swarm to the same marketing strategies like moths to light. What happens is they bid up the costs of adwords and end up spending way too much money. Or, they try to target all the same keywords in article marketing, and their efforts get lost in search engines.

A better method would be to do this: Quickly do a look at what the current marketers are doing, see what words they are bidding on and find the less competitive ones (you can do this by looking at paid results in Goolge search). Use the less targeted words. Do this same strategy for choosing keywords to target in article marketing (you can do this by looking at results using the Google keyword tool and a Google search with your keywords in quotes).

Or, even better, find marketing strategies that are not being utilized in the niche. Local newspaper classified ads, for example, can be highly effective and are often over-looked by online marketers.

3) Find untapped niches and rising trends

This strategy is slightly harder because markets get tapped very quickly online. However, a good way to do this is to monitor affiliate networks, google trends, google keywords, fads in magazines or pop culture, and then tap these markets as they arise. If you get in early, you can beat the affiliate tsunami that is soon to follow.

Make Profits Online Without a Website or Your Own Product

It might sound strange to make money online without having your own website or product, but it’s actually quite easy. Follow these simple steps:

1) Find something to sell

In this step you actually find a product: You don’t develop your own product, you can find great products that are already created and selling in the marketplace and sign up as an affiliate.

Why would you do this?

First, creating your own product is very difficult and most people never end up finishing theirs which holds them back from actually making money online. Second, products already created and selling illustrate that there is a market online and that the product is desired by customers. This bypasses the market research phase that needs to be completed if you are considering creating your own product.

Where do you find them?

You can find digital products, usually information products, on affiliate networks like Clickbank.com. You can tell if the product is selling or not by looking at the product’s gravity (which is a percentage that Clickbank uses to indicate how well a product is doing in the marketplace). Go to clickbank’s marketplace and conduct a search and you will find thousands of products in many different markets. You can see the products gravity below each product description.

How do you sign up to promote a product?

Simply create a ‘hoplink’ in Clickbank for the product you select. To do this, all you have to do is sign up to Clickbank (it's free), select a product from your marketplace search, and click on ‘promote’ which is next to each product. Your hoplink will now track all the clicks and sales that go through your link.

2) Create a redirect

To promote and sell your affiliate product you don't need to develop a website or purchase hosting, which can be challenging and costly. Instead, all you need to do is purchase a domain name from sites like Godaddy.com for about $9 a year. Choose a name that is related to the market you are in.

Then, once you purchase your domain name create a redirect which directs anyone that clicks on your site to your affiliate offer (through your hoplink). This is easily done through Godaddy. Each click is tracked and for anyone who purchases the offer you will receive a percentage, usually 50% or more depending on the product, for each sale.

3) Drive traffic to your redirect link

You can do this a number of different ways. One effective and free way is through article marketing. Write a 250-500 word article related to the market you are in and post it on sites like Ezinearticles.com or Goarticles. Below each article write a brief description of the product you are offering and include your domain name link, which will redirect traffic through your affiliate link to the product's sales page.

Another way to drive traffic is through pay-per-click advertising. To do this, sign up to Google Adwords and create an account. Find keywords that people search for related to the market you are in and place bids on these words.

You can see examples of Goolge Adword ads on the top or right side of Google search results. This is what your ad will look like and where it will show up. Just follow the instructions in Google Adwords and look at other examples of ads to see how to craft yours.

There are other ways to drive traffic including forum marketing, social network marketing and so on, but they are beyond the scope of this article. Once you get the first two marketing strategies going you can branch out and explore other avenues.

Easy Affiliate Marketing Formula for Beginners

So, let’s not waste time with filler. You want to get
started with affiliate marketing as soon as possible right? And you want to do
it properly I assume? Good, here is how:

1) Find a Market

Don’t get too caught up with finding a market. There are
1000s upon 1000s of markets online, so really you just have to pick one. Ideally you want
to look for these key things:

Are there many products already out there in the market? If
so, this is good sign, means there is a market.

Are there many people selling in this market especially
using pay-per-click advertising? If yes, this is good too, means that it is likely a
profitable market.

Don’t be scared because of competition, this is a good sign. More often than not no competition means there is no market.

Here is how you answer these questions. Go to Clickbank.com
and do a search in the marketplace for products. Let’s say you want to enter
the home construction market, like ‘How to build sheds.’ Type in ‘Shed building’
and see what comes up.

Another way is to go onto Amazon.com. Are there many ‘How to
build shed’ books or magazines?If so, this is a great sign.

Now, do a Google search for ‘Shed building’ or ‘how to build
sheds’ etc. Do you see any paid advertising (shaded in yellow at the top or
listed on the right side)? This means people are actively paying to promote
such products indicating that it is a profitable market.

2) Find a product

Now that you know a market exists, it’s time to find a product
and create your affiliate link. To make it easy, go to Clickbank.com and chose
a product from the ones available in your selected niche. You can do this by doing another quick search
in the Clickbank marketplace.

There are two approaches here to selecting a product: First,
you can choose one at the top with a high gravity (which means it’s being
promoted by many people and they are likely making sales). This means competition
will be higher, but it also means it’s probably a proven seller.

The second approach is finding the sleeper product. These
are products lower down on the list that are newer to the market, and therefore
have low gravities. You can really clean up with these because the competition isn’t
there yet, however, they aren’t necessarily proven winners.

Once you find a product it’s very easy to create your own
personalized link. Just sign up to Clickbank (it’s free), follow the
instructions, and create your hoplink (which is what they call your affiliate
link).

3) Promote your product

Now that you have your link you can start promoting. There
are many ways to do this. First, if you have some money kicking around you can
try pay-per-click advertising. You can sign up to Google’s Adwords program and
start immediately.

A free way would be article marketing. Write a quick
article, 250-350 words, on a subject related to your product. At the end of the
article add your ‘signature box’ which is a brief statement about your offer
and your link.

These two methods are good enough to begin. You can expand as you go.
